The Cleveland Division of Fire participates in the American Red Cross Operation Save-A-Life, which provides free smoke alarms, batteries, and installation. All elderly and low income Cleveland residents of Cleveland qualify for this no-cost program.
Penalties are enforced for those who commit arson, and in Cleveland parents may be held liable for acts committed by their children. Those wanting to provide information about arson and those seeking investigation of suspected arson, are urged to call the Cleveland Fire Department Arson Unit. All calls are kept confidential, and rewards may apply for some information.
Cleveland adopted HSAS, developed by the US Department of Homeland Security, to classify the perceived level of risk of terrorist acts on American soil. Colors signify risk levels, as seen in the chart to the left.
