The Community Education and Training Section participates in career days, and provides speakers to local groups and organizations including private businesses. These services are available at no cost to the public and to private organizations.
Fire Public Education Unit (Speaker's Bureau)

Cleveland firefighters provide fire education speakers for schools, day care centers, senior centers, and employers and also appear at career days. In addition, firefighters with fire apparatus, including engines, hook & ladders and the Smoke House make appearances at community and school events. The 32 foot Smoke House is a mobile version of a home which uses non-toxic smoke and an alarm system to teach children how to escape a home fire.
Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Program

Cleveland Police Officers present a video and teach elementary school age students about the dangers of firearms and what to do if they find a gun.
This program, offered to 5 th graders, is presented by uniformed Police Officers in all CMSD and several parochial elementary schools. Approximately 1600 Cleveland children attend D.A.R.E. classes annually. This series of classroom lessons teaches children how to resist peer pressure and live productive drug and violence-free lives.
Seat Belt Safety/Bicycle Safety

Police Officers present a video of crash-test dummies “Vince and Larry” to teach third grade students about the importance of wearing seat belts and bicycle helmets.
This program for children aged 4-7 teaches traffic and home safety tips including calling 911, fire safety, and poison, bicycle and pedestrian safety. Cleveland Recreation Centers offer the program during the summer.
Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T.)
This program for 4th and 7th graders covers topics such as resisting peer pressure, resolving conflicts, and understanding the impact of gangs and gangs violence.
GREAT is taught in all Cleveland Metropolitan Schools and several parochial middle schools, with approximately 1600 students attending classes annually.
This cooperative effort with the Boy Scouts of America is directed towards young men and women who have completed the eight grade, are at least 14 years old (but under 21), and are interested in law enforcement careers.
Exploring offers experiential learning with lots of fun-filled, hands-on activities that promote the growth and development of adolescent youth.
What To Do When You are Stopped by The Police

This program includes a seminar that addresses police-resident interaction and is geared primarily towards young adults.
Tours of Police Headquarters and Police Museum
