Street FAQ's

507. Our street is flooding because of a blocked storm drain. What should I do?

Contact Water Pollution Control at 216.664.2513

509. I need to request street sweeping. What should I do?

The Division of Streets sweeps each main street every 10 days from May to October. Each residential street is swept every four weeks. If you believe there is an additional need for a street to be swept, call 216.664.2510.

510. I believe our street needs resurfacing. Who do I call at the City?

Call the Division of Streets operation center at 216.664.2510. Your street will be inspected, and if it needs resurfacing, it will be put on a list. The streets needing the most work receive higher priority and they are completed first.

512. What number do I call to get my street plowed and salted?

216.664.2510

641. When it snows, which streets are plowed first?

Main streets are serviced within 4-8 hours after snowfall has ended. Residential streets are serviced within 24 to 48 hours. If your street has not been serviced after 48 hours, please contact the Snowbird Operation Center at 216.664.2511

642. How far should I stay away from snowplows?

Keep your vehicle at least 50 feet away from snowplow equipment to reduce the risk of accident.

800. I believe a stop sign is needed at the corner of my street. Who do I call for that, and who do I call if a street sign is knocked down or damaged?

Call Traffic Engineering at 216.664.3194

801. Who do I call to get a pothole filled?

The Division of Streets Operations Office at 216.664.2511, 24 hours a day.

802. How do I know which bridges are closed?

Construction which affects streets and may close bridges can be found here under "City Projects." For additional information, call 216.664.2381.

803. Does the City assist in driveway repairs?

No, homeowners are responsible for driveway repairs. Building permits are not required, but questions regarding aprons, street openings and curb cuts should be directed to 216.664.2174.

805. What is the City's parking policy during a snow parking ban?

When there is over 2 inches of snow, the parking ban is automatic on streets that have posted red and white snow ban signs. The City also notifies the media to relate this information to the public via print, radio and television. Some snow information can be found here.

A "General" ban means no parking on main streets. An "All-City" ban means no parking on any city streets. The bans reduce the time it takes to restore normal traffic, as well as the amount of extra shoveling required for residents. Those having questions may call 216.664.2510

806. The snowplow has plowed snow into my driveway apron- who do I report this to?

It is the homeowners responsibility to keep their driveway apron clear. Elderly residents may receive assistance from the Department of Aging at 216.664.4694

807. How do I prepare my yard for leaf pick up?

For those in high leaf-generation areas, signs are posted on Thursdays for the following week's pick-up. Leaves should be placed on the tree lawn, not in the street. Those who do not live in high leaf-generation areas may bag leaves for collection on regular trash days.

808. I’m elderly, what kind of assistance can I get with the yard and snow?

The Department of Aging has a Senior lawn-cutting program which runs from April to October. Over 3000 Boy Scouts and Leaders rake leaves annually for 1000+ Cleveland seniors through the Yard Charge Program. Assistance is also available for snow removal. Those interested in any of these programs may call 216.664.4694.

The Division of Streets Operations Office at 216-664-2510

167. My neighbor's car has been parked on the street and has not been moved in a month. Is there anything I can do about this?
