Public Service

This department performs a myriad of services, including inspecting, repairing, maintaining and planning improvements for public roadways, bridges and sidewalks; planning, repairing and operating bridges and viaducts; constructing public buildings; making and preserving surveys, maps, plans, drawings and estimates for public work; street cleaning- including ice and snow removal; leaf pick-up, collecting and disposing of solid waste; and granting permits for use of the City’s public rights of way.

Committed to Cleveland

As with all service-based entities, the scope of services of this department continue to evolve to meet the needs of Cleveland and its citizens. Some of the latest additions are a new waste collection pilot program, a snow and ice control program, applications for recycling grants, and development of a major bridge and street rehabilitation program.

Free Shredding Event a Success!
The Division of Waste Collection and All Ohio Secure Shred are pleased to report that Clevelanders brought over 18,000 pounds of paper during the August, 2010 shredding event, helping to KEEP CLEVELAND CLEAN AND GREEN!

Videos Can Help Cleveland Become Cleaner and Greener!
The Division of Waste Collection and TV20 have put together three short videos to help Clevelanders who have waste and recycling questions. The videos focus on waste collection, yard waste, and recycling. more

Scrap Tire Round-up: October 4th to 9th, 2010
Cleveland residents may drop off old tires at the Division of Waste Collection. There is no charge for this service, and each household may drop off up to ten tires. more

Hazardous Waste Round-Up and Disposal
Common products found in kitchens, basements, bathrooms and garages can emit toxic vapors into homes. These products can be harmful to the environment if not disposed of properly. Residents can safely dispose of them during the Round-Up. more

Automated Waste Collection, Curbside Recycling Expanding
Beginning in April 2011, these programs will include an additional 25,000 households throughout the city who will receive two sturdy, wheeled city-issued carts to be use for curbside recycling and waste collection. -video more

Notice to Cleveland Residents
Residential street sweeping occurs once a month after the normal collection. Look for bright orange “No Parking Signs” which are posted one day in advance

Broadway Avenue Closures for Resurfacing, Repairs
Broadway Avenue southeast bound from Miles to Harvard is closed to traffic. Broadway southeast bound traffic will be detoured to Harvard and East 93. One lane of Broadway northwest bound will be maintained. Right lanes will remain closed to traffic. more

Waste Collection Campaigns for a Cleaner Cleveland!
The Division of Waste Collection is launching a campaign to Keep Cleveland Clean and Green!! Clevelanders are being asked to do the right thing by helping to keep the city clean and following the law to avoid fines. more

Division of Waste Collection Seeks Input with Online Survey
Cleveland residents are being asked for input on waste collection services. Website users can indicate their preferences regarding cart size and send comments to the division. more

How to Dispose of Medication Safely
Expired medications should be thrown away. But they must be disposed of safely and carefully. There are ways to make medicines unusable and unrecognizable when they are disposed of. more

Street Closing and Construction Information Available
The Department of Public Service's Division of engineering & construction provides information on street resurfacing, sidewalk replacement, traffic signal upgrades, etc, which includes anticipated project start and end dates. more
