Ohio Region II Strike Team Urban Search and Rescue
The Region 2 Strike Team was organized to respond to building collapses and other emergencies in
Cuyahoga, Lake, Lorain, Ashtabula, and Geauga County in the State of Ohio.
In response to the events of 9/11, local and state officials looked at
local response for the State of Ohio and found holes in our state’s
response capabilities. The answer was the idea of Strike Teams, which
provide response services to incidents beyond the ability of a local fire
department or rescue team, but which may not require the use of a
full-service “FEMA team.”
Our goal is to respond within 30 minutes of being notified, bringing at
least 30 members trained in structural collapse rescue, lost-person search, shoring
operations, GPS mapping, collapse search, and large-area search. However,
we are not limited to collapse incidents. Our equipment cache includes
resources that can be used in a variety of emergency situations, and it is
available at the request of local emergency services. If you have an
incident that requires specialized training or equipment, contact us, and
we may be able to help you.
Region 2 is now operational, and we continue to train, improve and expand
our resources to serve Northeast Ohio.
