A key part of the Community Relations Board is its youth programs and direct involvement with sensitive community issues. The Board currently has four programs specific to important community issues:
Crisis Intervention Teams respond to alarming community events like police-involved shootings, violent youth death, and other crises.
This anti-violence initiative for gang-involved youth and young adults focuses on frequent offenders responsible for much of Cleveland’s gun violence. Participants are identified by the law, and a team works with them to address the needs of those wishing to change. The team makes sure they stay on track by checking their progress over time.
This program is a joint effort between the City of Cleveland and the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court System to work with first-time juvenile offenders, offering early intervention to try to prevent more serious crimes in the future.
Street Outreach Team
Trained volunteers supervised by Board staff members respond to those crises which have the possibility of further violence. In addition, the team takes a proactive approach to those neighborhood issues which, if not looked into, may grow to the level where police help is needed.
