Your library, bookstore, bank or insurance agent should have a copy of the monthly National Automotive Dealers Association Official Used Car Guide, monthly Kelley Blue Book or Edmund's to estimate a car's resale value. Comparing prices of similar makes and models can give you an idea of which seller offers the best deals.

Following these steps can help protect your rights and investment. Make sure:
- All work meets the standards indicated in your contract
- You have a copy of the contractor's City of Cleveland License/Registration Certificate
- You have written warranties for materials and workmanship
- You have proof that subcontractors and suppliers have been paid. Laws may allow a mechanic's lien to be filed against your home to satisfy unpaid bills!
- All excess material, tools and equipment have been cleared away and the site has been cleaned to your satisfaction
- You have inspected and approved the project

- Be careful! Variable rate loan payments can increase drastically, while fixed rate loan payments don't change
