Director of Building and Housing

Ronald J.H. O’Leary received his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and his Juris Doctor degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. After graduating from law school, O’Leary joined the City of Cleveland Department of Law as an assistant prosecutor. He then was the Chief Assistant Director of Law for Code Enforcement from 1999 through 2005. 

In 2006, O’Leary was appointed to be a judge with the Cleveland Municipal Court. After leaving the court, O’Leary was an attorney in Cleveland with Buckingham, Doolittle & Burroughs. He taught as an adjunct professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Law from fall 2006 through spring 2014.

In October 2006, O’Leary returned to the City of Cleveland where he was appointed by Mayor Frank G. Jackson as the assistant director for the Department of Building and Housing. In August 2014, O’Leary was appointed by Mayor Jackson as the Director of Building and Housing. This department registers building contractors, inspects all new construction and renovations, and provides code enforcement under the building, housing, and zoning codes.
