Cleveland will become a model of sustainability and will become a leader in the emerging green economy over the next nine years through the efforts of Sustainable Cleveland 2019.
The work began in earnest in August 2009 when nearly 700 people from across greater Cleveland and across the nation gathered at Public Auditorium for a three-day summit focused on Building an Economic Engine to Empower a Green City on a Blue Lake. This effort is focused on supporting business growth, protecting the environment and creating opportunities for individuals to prosper.
The Sustainable Cleveland 2019 Advisory Council has been formed and meets regularly.
The Summit 2010 Steering Committee has been working diligently to design this year’s summit. The Steering Committee is comprised of Summit 2009 participants and representatives from local companies and institutions. The Steering Committee has helped to develop the Appreciative Inquiry stakeholder mix, researched summit speakers, helped with sponsorship, communications and creating the title and objectives for the summit.
Mayor Jackson appointed Andrew Watterson to Chief of Sustainability, the City’s first cabinet level position focusing on sustainability, on September 22, 2009. Mayor Jackson commissioned a strategic sustainability and economic plan that aligns SC2019 initiatives and provides community focus around sustainability.
Advanced Energy Expo is the first of its kind to be offered by the City of Cleveland and is designed to provide an opportunity for advanced energy and energy efficiency companies to exhibit their technology and provide the public an opportunity to learn more about their products in advanced energy.
