Cleveland will become a model of sustainability and will become a leader in the emerging green economy over the next nine years through the efforts of Sustainable Cleveland 2019.

The work began in earnest in August 2009 when nearly 700 people from across greater Cleveland and across the nation gathered at Public Auditorium for a three-day summit focused on Building an Economic Engine to Empower a Green City on a Blue Lake. This effort is focused on supporting business growth, protecting the environment and creating opportunities for individuals to prosper.

Summit 2010: The Glocal Engine

Last summer, Mayor Frank G. Jackson brought together a diverse group of people vested in and dedicated to Cleveland to use their vast knowledge and imagination to create an action plan for building a green economy for Cleveland’s future. As promised, he is convening a follow up summit for this year. At this year’s summit, efforts will be focused on generating momentum on current efforts and promoting job creation. Summit 2010: The Glocal Engine will be held September 22-23 at the Cleveland Convention Center. This year’s summit will focus on the strength of the local economy in positioning our region to be globally competitive. We will explore how SC2019 can positively impact the capacity of creating a stronger connection between the local and global businesses.

This year’s follow-up summit will again incorporate the Appreciative Inquiry method (AI) as the facilitation method. AI is a collaborative, interactive, and action oriented process for creating change. We are doing more than having conversations; we are planning how we will solidify Cleveland’s sustainable future. That is why participants are asked to commit to both days of this summit. A firm commitment is required in order for applicants to obtain an appointment to the Summit team.
