CLEVELAND – Friday, January 20, 2017 the City of Cleveland Office of Sustainability will kick-off the Year of Vibrant Green Space in the rotunda of City Hall from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The event will feature more than 20 experts from across Northeast Ohio working to create active and accessible public spaces that connect people to place, nature, and one another.

“The theme for this year’s Sustainable Cleveland is the Year of Vibrant Green Spaces,” said Mayor Frank G. Jackson. “The lineup for the kick-off event will help set the conditions for its success.”

As part of Mayor Frank G. Jackson’s Sustainable Cleveland initiative, 2017 has been designated the Year of Vibrant Green Space. As the new Chief of Sustainability for the City of Cleveland, Matt Gray is “pleased to get the year started off right by focusing on a topic at the heart of making a sustainable city -- creating and maintaining vibrant green space.”

The kickoff provides a valuable opportunity to engage in:

  • Creating and maintaining green infrastructure;
  • Scaling up urban farming;
  • Planning for green space;
  • Celebrating Cleveland Metroparks' 100 year anniversary;
  • Planting green roofs; and
  • Growing our urban forest.

The event is free, and no registration is necessary. Please note that a photo ID is required to enter City Hall.
