(Wards 2, 4 & 6)

Expect additional traffic notices as improvements continue

CLEVELAND – On April 2, 2018, the City of Cleveland will begin the East 116th Street improvements between Union Avenue and Shaker Boulevard.  Phase I of the project will include all work items on the west side of the roadway from Forest Avenue to Shaker Boulevard while two-way traffic is maintained (one lane in each direction) on the east side of East 116th Street.  Access to all residential, commercial, and institutions will be maintained.  Electronic message boards will be placed on either end of the project on or about March 12, 2018 informing the public of the impending construction work.   Phase I work is estimated to complete in mid-May 2018.

The East 116th Street improvements will extend approximately 1.4 miles from Union Avenue to Shaker Boulevard. The improvements include new pavement, drainage, asphalt resurfacing, and installation of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant ramps, curbs and sidewalks as needed, new pavement markings, and traffic and pedestrian crossing signal upgrades. The work will take place during daytime hours from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The entire project is scheduled for completion by November 20, 2018.  Should there be any questions, please contact the City of Cleveland Chief Inspector, Traci Hartnett Mercado at 216-857-5447.

Editor’s Note: Road construction invariably presents hazards to the public. All travelers are urged to use caution in construction zones. Public safety and the safety of workers is a top priority.
